The Power of Pets
Last week I was once again reminded of the power of pets. I had to put my 13-year-old dog down. It was extremely emotional for me and my family. The last few days that I was with him, I remembered the amazing experiences we had together as well as the countless times I bent down to give him a hug or rub his belly. During each one of those brief moments, I could take the focus off my current problem or issue and share that moment with him. These situations basically stopped time for me. I was able to be present with him simply by redirecting my attention. I remember many occasions where I stopped being stressed out just by getting on the ground and playing with him. The love and energy I shared with him throughout the years improved the quality of my life and the power of our relationship will stay with me forever.
Need a quick mental break? If you have a pet, pucker those lips and let out a whistle. Focus on the positive energy that you are exchanging with them. You’ll remember these moments and how they made you feel, even long after they are gone.
Great description of the love pets being to our lives. Thank you for sharing this part of you. He was all of the best characteristics a person could hope for in a companion. They are and he was a direct reflection of the people around him. Thanks for reminding all of us we are not alone and of the powerfully positive role they play in our lives.
