Outlook From a Veteran

JoeVeteran’s Day was great. So many people stopped and said “thank you for your service,” which would then be followed up with, “You were overseas right?” I would smile and say “Thanks,” followed by a hesitant, “Yes, I served overseas.”

I know the lingering question on most peoples minds is, “I wonder if he has PTSD.” This is a diagnosis of a normal human condition, given the exposure of the often traumatic events that occurred overseas. The degree once home, varies from person to environment. Yes, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder sucks…but when surrounded by loved ones that bring out the best in us, we can go far.

Don’t let PTSD, movies and statistics scare you away from Veterans. They often have some of the biggest hearts you’ll ever come across. I’d rather have a real talk or even a hug from someone who cares, than a free meal– which, don’t get me wrong– I appreciate those too. The human connection is what I prefer, and I don’t know if others are like me, but I would venture to say they are. I love helping others, and know some great companies that enlist Veterans to do just that.

So as another Veteran’s Day passes, please remember that many of us are still trying to find our way. Sorry for rambling, but I just wanted to say thank you for your ongoing support on behalf of all Veterans.

Much love,

JK
