I Want to Live in Alaska

Like most people, I get sucked into the groundhog day vortex. Normal things like walking, reading, and staying active usually help, but sometimes, taking a mini mental vacation is all I need to refocus.

I don’t watch a lot of TV, but when I do, it’s some sort of show about Alaska. Living in the mountains, away from the traffic, text messages and news media? Sign me up. Shows like Life Below Zero, Port Protection and Mountain Men have convinced me that living this type of lifestyle would be an amazing experience. I even bought an ax so I could chop up a bunch of wood in my backyard… and I don’t even have a fireplace!

Now, let me start by saying that I would not last 2 days in the middle of nowhere. I have zero intentions of killing an animal, so I’m basically dead in the water right away. Yet the thought of living somewhere that remote calms me. Yes, just the thought. The feeling of being surrounded by nature or bundled up by a fire and looking up at the stars above the snow covered mountains. I am already soothed, just imagining it. Thinking about living in the Alaskan bush just happens to “reset” me.

Who knows if I will end up being a mountain man. For now though, daydreaming about it is just what I need.

Jeff from STL-Style has a clever way of exploring other places as well. Google street view!  Watch him explain.
